Things to keep in mind when looking for a house-mate/roommate

Finding a suitable house-mate that is compatible to your life style can be stressful. People, in general, exhibit characters and attitudes that can be annoying and had to live with. I suggest that if you find yourself in this kind of situation,
you can quit living in the house or find someone else supposing it’s your own house that you want to share. Here are a few of those things to keep in mind...
  • Look for someone who is friendly and polite to a reasonable extent.
  • Look for someone who is reliable, someone you can trust with the safety of the properties you are bound to share.
  • Look for someone who is working or doing something good to generate money for him/herself, so that when it comes to paying the bills, you wouldn't suffer having to beg the person for it. Continue reading...
  • Look for someone who is clean and hard-working, someone that can clean up their own mess, take turns to clean out the bathrooms and corridors, cook their own meals and not waiting for you to cook so that they can partake. Am not saying there will be no atom of sharing between you two, but avoid total dependency on your finance from someone you barely know from Adam.
  • Look for someone who can communicate freely to an extent and not people who hold grudges. They can kill you one day, remember, you are both the only ones in the house. Being shy is not a problem, but they should be able to speak up when necessary.
  • Look for someone who is patient, long-suffering, and accommodating, avoid people who are prone to quick anger, it will put you under unnecessary pressure trying to please the person always. Some personalities are so meticulous in bed-dressing, cosmetics layout and the likes, that if you have no degree in the field of organization and you are not amazed by people that are, you may be in an uncomfortable situation.
  • A successful house mating requires two compatible people, living and sharing same space. Knowledge of these little matters before accepting someone as your roommate is very important. You may begin to wonder, how do I find out all these things without living with the person yet? My answer is this, "it doesn't take much to know up-front these little matters”. Go out with the person. Have a long chat. People reveal a lot about themselves when they are relaxed and have no fear of judgment. Draw your conclusions from their responses. And more than anything keep an open mind.
